Child & Educational Psychology
As an Educational Psychologist in private practice, I work with children, young people, families, schools, and a range of professionals to support children’s learning, development and well-being. I work at different levels: working with individual children, with families and staff/professionals, and at a whole-school or system level.
My role is to help make sense of the challenges a child may be experiencing, whether at school or at home, and to find practical ways to support their progress, inclusion and well-being. My approach is collaborative and child-centred. Every child is unique, so I take time to listen, observe, and bring together different perspectives to build a full picture of what might help. I focus not only on the child, but also the environments in which they live and function, and the relationships and support that they have available to them.
My specialism is in making sense of the feelings, thoughts and experiences that children often find hard to put into words. By exploring their inner world, I help parents, carers, schools and other professionals see what a child might be communicating through their behaviour. When we understand the story behind the behaviour, we can respond in ways that truly meet the child’s needs. This not only eases difficulties in the present but can also support meaningful and lasting change in their relationships, learning and wellbeing. This often requires more time and involves going beyond symptoms and labels in order to understand something of greater complexity about a child.

Educational psychology assessment
An assessment involves an initial consultation with concerned adults, and may involve further observation in a setting, discussion with the child / young person and specific assessment activities. It identifies underlying and often interacting factors contributing towards a problem or difficulty, as well as strengths and practical ideas for support and intervention. This is summarised in a report.
